Revision of palynochronologic and radiocarbon age estimates for the termination of glacial Lake Iroquois, mainly based on a currently accepted younger determination of the key Picea–Pinus pollen transition, shows agreement with recently established constraints for this late glacial event in the Lake Ontario basin at 13 cal years BP. The pretreatment of the bulk sediments was based on common practice in (3-decay radiocarbon dating (as shown by recent publications (e.g., Lowe et al., ) and date lists in Radiocarbon and Geological Survey of Canada Papers) so that our measurements would be representative of "normal" bulk sediment dates.
Twenty-one radiocarbon dates showed that the core succession was deposited after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM); the ages were 15–11 cal. kyr bp for Unit 1, 11–9 cal. kyr bp for Unit 2, and 8–0 cal. kyr bp for Unit 3. These data indicate that sediments were deposited in transgressive fluvial/estuarine to regressive deltaic environments.
The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) is part of the Earth Sciences Sector of Natural Resources GSC is Canada’s oldest scientific agency and one of its first government organizations. It was founded in to help develop a viable Canadian mineral industry by establishing the general geological base on which the industry could plan detailed investigations.

The conversion of a radiocarbon age, given in radiocarbon years B.P. (i.e., radiocarbon years elapsed since the origin of the sample) to a true calendar year makes necessary certain assumptions with respect to: (1) the half-life of C 14, (2) the production rate of C 14 by cosmic rays, (3) the size of reservoirs into which C 14 is distributed.Geological Survey of Canada radiocarbon dates VI.
